I wasn't always open with the things that went through my mind and especially not those that I have managed to write down. But with a certain project Palo encouraged us to interpret what we thought was most significant in political issues the best way we could. After watching one of my favorite series of shows on HBO's "Brave New Voices" I knew exactly what that was. I was going to write, but form it in a way that people couldn't help but to listen. This is my first publicly shared poem which was intended to be spoken word; the first of many to come.
Reborn Purple
Why can't we be purple?....
Like the ocean below a sunset or a sky awaiting Morning's arrival.
Why must we be red?...like the blood that runs
too far away to hear our support for their survival.
Or blue, like the ocean of our southern borders used to be.
We once saw our nation white & black but vision through
these life-like 3-D lenses doesn't make my experience any more polite....
What kid of fool lets an ass or a pachyderm tell him what's right?
It must be a game to you, Trunks 1-Donkeys 0 and WE
have no say in the rules, "Just sit still!" like we're 2 year old.....
'cause the other 233 don't count.
Maybe I complain too much. I'm new to the scene,
but I'd live above an overpass than under the influence
of green....I don't intend to be rude...
But I feel i must be mean like the average
rate of suicide that increases while you scheme.
Sometimes I dream, that we can paint a pretty picture at least,
because you can't make a masterpiece with 2 solid color pixels.
We are not prepared to hit the floor just yet so in store I hope
to find a safety net knotted with the promise of purple to secure our fall.
And you can argue that I'm stuck in before and not obvious foresight
because our founders centuries ago saw...
that Red & Blue are 2 colors and divided we fall.
We can't deny the inevitable, I believe nature's law.
Minds of red & blue are meant to conceive Purple,
that's all.

Op Gratitude: The Deadline
Well I have to say I'm proud of allot of my classmatesfor getting involved in this project even though we didnt reach our goal. Even though we didnt get to a 1,000 letters we got people thinking and that's enough to ask for. If we had more time to really plan promote this cause I have no doubt that that if we had gotten the idea earlier we could've reached our goal but just because the semesters over doesn't mean Op Gratitude is over for me though. I plan to stay involved with the program while in other classes so hopefully Mr. Palo keeps me informed. Thanks Palo for the oppurtunity to help people I'm gonna miss first period a whole lot.

Operation Gratitude Day 2
Today I volunteered to help run the booth at lunch. Our jobs were to further promote our cause and collect letters as well as give out the information people needed to write their own. I do remember I got a few people interested and allot of promises for future letters I think we are really going to make a difference here. Maybe tomorrow will be a little more successful with the music, people seem to respond well to that.
I'm really excited about the way this is turning out and glad we're doing it, it makes me feel like I have.....purpose.

Operation Gratitude: My Master Plan
Inspired by our involvement in Operation gratitude today I finished my latest poem that is to be performed in spoken word at this Friday's Mr. La Sierra pageant. Seeing as it's an extremely popular event at our school I thought there was no better way for me to contribute than to use what I love to help. So the poem although not pleasant is meant to encourage people to write letters to our troops. I personally have a couple friends presently in Afghanistan and I know that what keeps them going is the support they get from us from overseas.

A Slim Chance
http://www.newsweek.com/2010/10/25/how-the-democrats-can-prevail.html
The lingering predictions for midterms have the republicans taking over Congress and they say it is because the same voters that surged in 2008 will not be willing to do it again. But the democrats only need to keep a slim majority to stay in control and it is believable that they can do so. The fact is Obama has been stirring u allot of excitement recently on his campaign and if he keeps it up we could get those wins we need. And yes i say yes because if I am going to take sides I am going to take the democrats. Contests in the west like our Barbara Boxer should raise even more drive for democratic voters in that the declining number of women in the senate will pump those followers up. There are plenty of scenarios brought up in this article that give me hope I just pray it isn't the false kind.

Self-inflicting wounds
http://caffertyfile.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/14/pelosi-hurt-the-democrats-in-midterms/?iref=allsearch
This article on the CNN website covers a huge issue in the upcoming mid-term elections, the democrat's chances. But it seems like a decision the democrats made a long time ago is coming back to ruin their chances of keeping control of the house. In picking Nancy Pelosi as house speaker the democrats are looking back on the decisio in regret now seeing how republicans can use it as firepower. Billboards and ads everywhere use Pelosi's face as the reasoning that democrats should not be in control. With her many contraversial mistakes, speeches and decisions the democrats could be looking at their achilles heel, and it's a cut from the inside.

Spreading fear of Islam?
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-ucla-islamic-20101025,0,6924912.story
First the community center and now this, the nation is getting ridiculous and paranoid these days. UCLA's administration has held a suspension on Islamic Studies for 3 years now and there have been no signs of letting up. The college administration argues that it is because of a lack in finances and teachers that they have postponed it's return but no one really knows. So students mostly of the Muslim community attending UCLA are petitioning for the school to release it's hold on the classes claiming a fear of the nation of Islam. With the other contraversial events occuring recently wth this issue, it's hard to say you don't believe them.
